Let’s Glow!
Last weekend, members at our Milo-Grogan Club had the opportunity to get their glow on! The evening event featured an mesmerizing dance room complete with a blacklight and glow sticks, a disco ball, and other glow-in-the-dark items. Thirty members indulged in a night of hide-and-seek, relay races, face painting, dancing, and pizza.
Ashley, Club Director of Milo-Grogan, appreciates that events like these “allow kids to be themselves, free from pressure externally or from peers.” She described one member, D’Asia, who “shined like a diamond” (and not just because of the atmosphere)! D’Asia came to the Club as more reserved individual but has steadily become more acclimated to her peers. At the party, she could be found laughing with her friends, dancing, and posing for the camera (see above).
The glow party was an incentive for youth ranging in age from 9 to 13. By earning “Integrity Stickers,” they demonstrated to staff that they earned the opportunity to attend. Behaviors such as being quiet, listening, and completing homework during Power Hour earned all 30 of these members an exciting Friday night. Another glow party may be in the future because of its success!
