Lindy Infante Foundation to Fund First Competitive Athletic League at BGCC

The Lindy Infante Foundation, whose mission is to provide athletic scholarships to children in need to play sports, has granted Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus $225,000 to create the Lindy Infante Foundation Athletic League.  This transformational gift will provide 70 boys and girls grades 3-6 the opportunity to participate in high-level competitive sports. “Offering our members the opportunity to be trained in high-level competitive sports will enhance their overall experience and increase the likelihood that they will stay engaged in the Club through their middle school and high school years,” says Rebecca Asmo, CEO.  The Lindy Infante Foundation honors the life and legacy of the late Gelindo “Lindy” Infante, former University of Florida football player and head coach of the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts.  As a child, Lindy experienced many of the hardships that poverty presents.  A nationally-sponsored race at the Boys & Girls Clubs where he placed 10th in the country changed his life, catapulting him into the limelight and ultimately his professional career.  “The relationship that we are building with Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus is providing us with the foundation to begin accomplishing our goal,” says Brad Infante, founder and son of the late Gelindo Infante, “and the fact that Lindy began his journey with the same organization has led us to believe this partnership is meant to be.”
