Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus Announces Youth of the Year

For 70 years, the Youth of the Year program has honored and celebrated the nation’s most inspiring teens and their incredible journeys.  Recognizing youth for outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to a healthy lifestyle, Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus selects one exceptional Club member each year to be the voice and inspiration for youth in our community.

This year, three outstanding teens competed for the Youth of the Year title, delivering self-written speeches on their vision for America’s youth and fielding questions from a panel of judges on a variety of topics that reflected their hopes, dreams and Club experience.  “My vision is to see more youth get connected to and stay within the Clubs,” says Danielle, the 2019 Youth of the Year winner, who spoke about the need for more places in the community where teens can positively engage with one another.  Danielle, a six-year member and high school junior, says it is a privilege to be able to represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus and hopes that her Youth of the Year title will allow her the opportunity to give back to the organization that has paved her way to a Great Future.  Danielle will move on to compete in the regional Youth of the Year competition in April in Perrysburg, Ohio and will have the opportunity to attend the National Youth Leadership Academy in Denver, Colorado in June.  Congratulations to Danielle and all of our Youth of the Year finalists!
