21st Century Certified Teacher

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio (BGCCO), an Affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, enables the young people to reach their full potential by providing high-quality and impactful out-of-school time programming for youth in grades K-12. BGCCO serves 4,000 youth per year throughout Central Ohio.


 BGCCO is seeking a Certified Teacher to implement and assist with the planning of the academic components of the 21st Century Community Learning Center program.


Job Title: 21st Century Certified Teacher

Location: Columbus, OH

Job Status: Temporary, Part Time, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Club Director


Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assists Club Director in the planning and implementing of program activities to achieve program objectives, under their direction. Assists in development of appropriate lesson plans and instructional materials for utilization in the academic component.


2. Analyzes and tracks program participants’ academic progress using school and 21st Century program activity data. Provides instruction tailored to the unique academic needs of students. Provides feedback on participants’ academic needs, progress and academic materials needed to Site Director and Academic Coordinator.


3. Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the overall site academic program component of the 21st Century program. Prepares program and activity schedules to assure program components are provided to youth and adults to assist them in achieving their academic goals; assists in development and monitoring of annual academic program objectives and assesses academic program data to plan appropriate materials and schedules to ensure program needs are met.  Prepares relevant reports and assures that the site carries out BGCCO policies and meets site operational standards.  Plans and directs program implementation with assistance as needed from site staff and volunteers.


4. Assists Site Director with identification and referral of participants to the program. Focuses on developing youth participants’ engagement and increasing their attendance, program participation, academic skills, knowledge, and abilities.


5. Fosters program participants’ positive youth development utilizing Boys & Girls Clubs positive youth development strategy. Implements guidance and discipline policies relating to program participants.  Communicates and maintains the program’s standards of conduct for program participants.  Assists with maintenance of records relating to participant discipline and development issues.


6. Recommends program enhancements and improvements and provides input into plans to initiate new program offerings. Assists with identifying prospective community resources/volunteers that could assist with programs.


7. Assist with planning and implementing special events and activities for the 21st Century program as needed.


8. Represents the organization and interprets its policies, objectives, standards and programs to program participants, parents, community organizations and the public. Promotes and stimulates the program participants’ knowledge of and interest in program activities to achieve participant retention goals.


9. Helps maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the facility and supports participant’s involvement in keeping program areas clean, putting away supplies after use, etc.


10. Participates in training deemed necessary by Club Director and/or 21st Century Program Manager.


11. Works with the schools’ teachers and the School leadership to ensure that the standards of academic achievement set by the Columbus City School District, are integrated into the program


12. Performs any other duties the Site Director and/or 21st Century Program Manager might deem necessary and assists with activities in other program areas as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field and is a certified teacher in state of Ohio.

– At least three years’ experience planning and implementing academic programs for youth.

– Knowledge of youth development, ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships with youth participants; demonstrated caring and respect exhibited toward participants.

– Ability to relate to the general public, parents and Club participants in a friendly, positive, and professional manner.

– Good verbal and written communication skills.

– Demonstrated enthusiasm, energy and commitment in personal contract with participants, parents, supervisors and the general public.

– Satisfactory results of a criminal background check are required.



Physical Requirements:

Ability to manage a fast-paced youth program. Ability to move throughout program spaces during program hours to observe staff and support youth programming.
