Area Director

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio (BGCCO), an Affiliate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, enables young people to reach their full potential by providing high-quality and impactful out-of-school time programming for youth in grades K-12. BGCCO serves 4,000 youth per year throughout Central Ohio.


Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio (BGCCO) is seeking a dynamic, process-focused self-starter to join our team as the Area Director.  The primary function of the Area Director is to direct and manage the daily operations of our clubs, within the Franklin County footprint, with a focus on comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery.

Job Title:          Area Director (Columbus Market)

Location:         Columbus, Ohio

Job Status:      Full-time, Exempt

Reports To:     Chief Operating Officer


  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of 5 Club Directors
  • Drives and supports an environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
  • Ensures development and implementation of a strategic planning process for overall programs, including development of annual program objectives in conjunction with the corporate strategy
  • Contribute to quality improvement strategies by conducting program evaluations and annual written analysis of member needs and interests
  • Manages financial resources, participating in the development of annual budgets
  • Oversees the maintenance and operation of the physical properties and equipment
  • Recruit, select, manage, and provide career development opportunities for site staff
  • Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information.
  • Provide counsel, advisement and if needed, discipline to staff members
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and other to assist in resolving issues and to promote the Club


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to communicate clearly with command and humility (oral & written)
  • Strong organizational skills and process mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff, facilities, and recruitment/retention of key employees
  • Working knowledge of policy and procedure development, implementation, and overall management
  • Solid knowledge of recreation and youth development theory
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to connect with people and balance empathy and toughness



  • 6+ years of demonstrated leadership and supervision of a team
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing policies and procedures
  • Working experience with Microsoft & database management applications
  • Satisfactory results of a criminal background check required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver’s license


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be in the field 75% of the time
  • Ability to work non-traditional work hours with schedule flexibility
